Lol, wow, I know exactly what you're talking about.

In 7th grade when I did track the same exact thing happened to my team. Our coach just all of a sudden up and left and we got stuck with this weird dude, I don't even remember his name. I swear he was drunk at 3 out of every 5 practices though.
